Navigation 1 Online Exam

What you’ll need

• Computer or tablet

• Practice chart (chart sheets 626.1 and 321 – the same chart used on the Navigation 1 course; can be ordered separately)

• Dividers (Linex or brass)

• Protractor or course plotter

• Pencil and eraser

Exam details

• You may start the exam whenever it suits you.

• After you begin, you have 2 hours 15 minutes to complete it.

• You’ll receive personalised feedback, and if you pass, a certificate will be emailed to you as an attachment.

• The exam is approved by the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom.

• It is delivered on a Moodle platform.

• Accounts for the exam system are created manually, so there will be a brief delay after purchase before you receive your login credentials.

About the Navigation 1 online exam

The exam is administered by the Finnish Navigation Instructors Association (SNOP).
Passing it earns you a certificate that proves your theoretical competence when you apply to Traficom for an International Certificate for Operators of Pleasure Craft (ICC) or a Certificate for Operators of Charter Boats. To obtain an ICC you must also hold the Navigation 2 qualification.

The Navigation 1 exam is equivalent to the Saaristolaivuri exam, but the Saaristolaivuri exam itself cannot be taken online.
